In the year 2000 we set out on our first buying trip to Denmark. After running our antique furniture business Country Life Antiques since 1984, we decided it was time for a fresh approach. Along with our regular antique buying, we started to test the market with a few select vintage modern pieces that caught our eyes. At this time Danish mid century furniture was lilltle known in Australia. Our customer response from the modern furniture was so exciting, that it did not take long for our following shipments to consist of 90% mid century modern pieces with only about 10% antiques.
By 2004, we knew it was time to open a showroom focussing purely on Danish classic furniture. We found our space on Magill Road at Norwood and established Danish Vintage Modern. Here we also established ourselves as the South Australian agent for Louis Poulsen classic Danish residential lighting range and have a huge display of lighting in store. We also showcase Verpan, Bestlite and Gubi lighting ranges.
We share a passion for beautiful furniture, art and design classics. We love beautiful homes and gardens and believe that a homely aesthetic environment is very important. The Danish sense of style in particular appeals to us through their great sense of proportion, comfort and mood. We would like to assist more people to achieve this mood with classic original furniture, lighting and art from Denmark.
We still of course also maintain our passion for antiques, and paricularly love the combination of antiques standing alongside the classic simple lines of early modern to mid century modern pieces. Our Adelaide Hills business Country Life Antiques at Meadows still operates, showcasing a select range of Danish, French and Italian antiques, bric a brac and anything quirky. We also import a range of French handmade traditional terracotta garden uns from Anduze. You will find a selection of all these items on this site.
Having well over twenty years experience in the antique furniture industry, we have a good background in understanding styles, quality of workmanship, and the finishing of many varied timbers and surfaces. We maintain a sympathetic approach to our restoration and strive for originality wherever posible to keep the integrity of the piece. All of our pieces are restored in house and all our prices include this service unless specified otherwise. We also offer a re-upholstery service where required and can supply fabrics from several Danish fabric manufacturers.
Our website is updated at least every few days, with new items being uploaded all the time.Unfortunately, we can never have all of our stock on the site all of the time, so if you are looking for a particular item, send us an email and w will do our best to source it for you - we may even have it standing in our warehouse waiting restoration or photography.
Shipping interstate weekly, just ask us and we are only too happy to help!
We look forward to sharing with you......
